Every autumn the studio sets itself a challenge: dress for the season with ten pieces and two pairs of shoes. It is less a rule than a way of seeing which clothes really earn their place.

## The ten

1. A camel overcoat
2. A waxed field jacket
3. A merino crew in charcoal
4. A ribbed turtleneck in oatmeal
5. A washed linen overshirt
6. A check flannel shirt
7. Brown wool wide trousers
8. Stone chinos
9. A navy pleated skirt
10. A camel lambswool scarf

With suede Chelsea boots and black derbies, that makes more than thirty outfits — and not one decision in the morning that takes more than a minute.

## Why it works

Keep to one family of colours — here camel, oatmeal, brown, navy and charcoal — and every top meets every bottom. Choose cloth with texture rather than pattern, so the outfits stay interesting without fighting each other.
